Age Requirements:

Persons born after January 1, 1984, may not operate a motorboat powered by a motor in excess of 10 horsepower unless he or she has successfully completed a boating safety course approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA). These persons must be in possession of evidence of completion of the approved course whenever operating such a vessel.

Persons less than 16 and older than 13 may not operate a personal watercraft unless he or she has successfully completed a boating safety course approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA). These persons must be in possession of evidence of completion of the approved course whenever operating such a vessel.

It is illegal for a person who owns or has charge of a personal watercraft to knowingly permit a person under the age of 13 years to operate the PWC. And it is illegal for a rental company to rent a personal watercraft to anyone under 13 years of age.

How Do I Get My Louisiana Certificate?

1. After you complete the course you will be issued a printable copy of your certificate that you can print yourself and use immediately.

2. Your scores will automatically be sent to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and within one week of successfully completing the online course, you will receive an email with your permanent Louisiana Boater Education Certificate and it will be available for printing from Lousiana Wildlife & Fisheries Website
