  • What is the BoatUS Foundation Captains Network?

    The BoatUS Foundation Captains Network is an online directory for licensed captains. In order to create a profile, each applicant must submit their merchant mariner credential number to be verified by the United States Coast Guard’s Homeport Database.

    The purpose of the directory is to create a network of licensed captains for the general public and industry related services needs. Captain’s may be contacted and hired for charter, transit, training, delivery etc.

    Please read the “Terms and Service” and “Privacy Policy” and hit Agree to open the directory.

  • What is the BoatUS Foundation?

    The BoatUS Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water is an innovative leader promoting safe, clean and responsible boating. The Foundation provides educational outreach directly to boaters and supports partner organizations nationwide.

    With millions of boaters on the water, our aim is to reduce accidents and fatalities, increase stewardship of our waterways and keep boating a safe and enjoyable pastime. The BoatUS Foundation is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our work is primarily funded by grants and individual donations.

  • Who is eligible to be listed on the BoatUS Foundation Captain’s Network?

    Individuals with a United States Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential that is in good standing.

  • Who is responsible for vetting the Captains on the BoatUS Foundations Captains Network?

    Any individual that seeks the services of a Captain on BoatUS Foundations Captains Network is responsible for doing their own due diligence when it comes to hiring a captain off of the network pages. Please consult the “Terms of Use” page.

  • How do I apply to be listed?

    To be considered for a listing on the BoatUS Foundation Captains Network an applicant must complete the application at here.. Please read the “Terms and Service” and “Privacy Policy” before clicking “Verify your USCG Reference Number”

    Your MMC number must be verified to be able to submit an application. Once your MMC is verified, you can continue on to the application. After submitting your application, our team will review the application and make a determination about your eligibility to publish your profile. We reserve the right to deny a posting for any reason.

  • What happens when my application is approved?

    When your application is approved, you will receive an email notifying you of the approval and directing you to claim your listing. Follow the link in the email to claim your listing. You will need to resubmit your MMC credential number for verification.

  • How do I claim my listing?

    No, you do not need to have a boating safety certificate or license to participate in this program.

  • What happens when my listing is complete?

    When the listing is claimed and submitted it will need to, again, be approved by BoatUS Foundation staff. Please allow up to 10 days for your changes to be approved. During this time your profile will still be visible on the BoatUS Foundation Captains Network.

  • How do I modify my listing?

    Go to here and click the login arrow on the right side of the map page. Login to access your profile page.

  • How do I delete my listing?

    To delete your listing please contact a BoatUS Foundation Captain’s Network representative at captains@boatus.com or call 1-800-245-2628

  • Why was my listing declined?

    Listings can be declined for many reasons and BoatUS Foundation retains the sole discretion to approve or decline any listing. Listings can be denied if they are incomplete, contain unrelated content, inappropriate or unprofessional photos, among other things. BoatUS Foundation retains the sole right and discretion to approve, decline, or delete any listing for any reason.

  • Steps to Apply to be listed on the BoatUS Foundation Captains Network

    1. Visit our application form here
    2. Input your last name, MMC #, your preferred email address
    3. Read and review the terms of service
    4. If you agree to the terms of service, check the Accept Box and click “Verify your USCG Reference Number”
    5. Fill in the following fields:
      • Email
      • Phone Number
      • Mailing Street
      • Mailing City
      • Mailing State
      • Mailing Postal/Zip Code
    6. Click Next
    7. Select your license size
    8. Select your Operating Location
    9. Select your endorsements (if applicable)
    10. Select any education certifications you may have (if applicable)
    11. Select each category that you have experience with
    12. Input your base monetary rate for services
    13. Input your area/bodies of water that you operate on
    14. If you are willing to travel, check the box
    15. Add a distance you are willing to travel, in miles
    16. Select if you have a boat available for instruction
    17. Select your languages spoken
    18. About me-provide a short narrative about your boating experience
    19. Website-submit your personal website (if applicable)
    20. Click Submit
    Please allow up to ten business days for a decision to be made on your application. BoatUS Foundation retains the sole right and discretion to approve, decline, or delete any listing for any reason.
