Know the difference between this exam and the Florida course

This test differs from the Florida Permanent Boater Education Course since it only grants a temporary boating certification valid for 90 days. Once issued, this certification will expire after 90 days.

For a permanent, lifetime Boater Education ID Card, individuals must complete a separate the full Florida course and pass its associated exam.

  • Visitors from other states who want to rent or borrow a boat while on vacation in the state of Florida.

Is there a minimum age to take the exam?

  • There’s no minimum age to take the exam.
  • You must be at least 14 years old to drive a personal watercraft.
  • You must be at least 18 years old to rent a boat in Florida.

You will have 6 months to complete the exam from the date you sign up. Then your account will be retired and you will need to register and pay again.

If you fail, you will have unlimited attempts within this time period to pass.

NO. You will need to restart the test if you close out in the middle of the exam.
