The BoatUS Foundation’s Online Course is the only FREE Online Boating Safety Course approved by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to satisfy the mandatory education requirements for boaters and PWC operators born after 1/1/1984.

About the Course
What is the course about and why do I need it?
This free online course teaches you everything you need to operate a boat safely and legally in Louisiana including navigation rules, safety equipment, handling emergencies, and protecting the environment.
Persons born after January 1, 1984, may not operate a motorboat powered by a motor in excess of 10 horsepower unless he or she has successfully completed a boating safety course approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA). These persons must be in possession of evidence of completion of the approved course whenever operating such a vessel.

State Education Requirements
How do I get a Louisiana boating safety education certificate?
After you complete the course you will be issued a printable copy of your certificate that you can print yourself and use immediately.
Your scores will automatically be sent to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and within one week of successfully completing the online course, you will receive an email with your permanent Louisiana Boater Education Certificate and it will be available for printing from Louisiana Wildlife & Fisheries website.

Do I need to take this course?
Persons less than 16 and older than 13 may not operate a personal watercraft unless he or she has successfully completed a boating safety course approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA). These persons must be in possession of evidence of completion of the approved course whenever operating such a vessel.
More state requirements
It is illegal for a person who owns or has charge of a personal watercraft to knowingly permit a person under the age of 13 years to operate the PWC. And it is illegal for a rental company to rent a personal watercraft to anyone under 13 years of age.
